FFD Stretched Thin

On the afternoon of June 26, 2011 the Fresno Fire Department worked two multi-alarm fires simultaneously.

One was a three-alarm apartment fire at Marks and Dakota, that may have been arson. When a member of the FFD was interviewing people, they witnessed some people quickly leaving the scene, so the police were called.

The other fire was at Arthur and Dennett (near Fruit and Olive in the Tower District) for a two-alarm garage fire. Inside the garage though, was ammunition that was being stored.

Due to the fact that seventeen companies within the city limits were on the two fire calls, only three companies were available, so the fire department was forced to suspend responses to medical-aid calls (leaving that to American Ambulance) until units could be freed up.

NOTE: Fresno FD also has a unit each in Kerman, Biola, and Kearney Park...I did not count those. Also, a unit or two from Clovis FD was also used to cover stations.
