> "Unusually Warm With The Usual Craziness"
It has been unusually warm lately (above average temperatures)...but the craziness in the Fresno area stays the same!
MARCH 29, 2015
- From KFSN ABC-30: Fresno Police were dispatched to a strange incident at the Wal-Mart at Herndon and Ingram. There was a report of a female attacking people with a taser, including a child. Officers found and took the subject into custody. Injuries were very minor, and no one needed medical assistance.
- At about 10:20pm, Fresno Police were called out to Fresno and Shaw for a report of a woman with a bicycle on the northeast corner, yelling at traffic.
- At about 10:58pm, Fresno Police were dispatched to the area of Kerckhoff and Ninth for a report of a subject "having relations" with himself.
APRIL 3, 2015
- At about 7:55am, Madera County Fire\CalFire responded to the area of Road 28 and Avenue 9 for a report of a large box in the road, on fire.
APRIL 8, 2015
- At about 6:58pm, Fresno Police and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were advised of a traffic accident at Friant and Freeway 41. One of the accident victims was irate, and wearing some sort of body armor.
APRIL 12, 2015
- At about 11:50pm, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatched officers to southbound Highway 99 south of Ashlan Avenue for a report of a male riding a bicycle on the shoulder of the highway.
APRIL 17, 2015
- At about 2:30pm, emergency crews were dispatched to the Peace Officer's Gun Range near Highway 99 and Herndon. There were work crews out there shoring up the dirt berms behind the targets that collect the spent bullets. A county worker on a front-loader tractor was traveling on a dirt road on top of the berm (not digging or disking), when a gas pipeline buried about 40in. (about 3-3.5ft. deep) exploded, severely injuring the tractor driver and some inmate work-crewmen. The driver and one (or two) crewmen have severe burns to a majority of their bodies. The incident sent flames up about 100ft. into the sky (with a smoke "header" that can be seen dozens of miles away), and caused major traffic backups on Highway 99 between Avenue 7 in Madera County all the way to Downtown Fresno, and on surrounding surface streets, including Herndon and Shaw Avenues for several hours, and caused a couple nearby schools to activate their emergency plans. Right now, there are several agencies investigating the incident (CPUC, PG&E, Fresno County, Sheriff's Department, etc.), and there has been blame going around. PG&E says that the pipeline was "visually" inspected earlier in the month, and last month, and passed. IMHO, I think the tractor traveled over the pipe (as Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said in a live press conference Friday evening) on the road, and the weight of the tractor compacted the (hardpan?) ground underneath, and the pipeline gave-way. There may have also been some vibrations from a passing freight train, which was almost caught up in the explosion as well.
APRIL 18, 2015
- At about 5:08pm, Fresno Police were called to an unknown address in the Northeast Section of the city for a "check the welfare" of a male in a red pick-up truck (with the door open), growling at himself.
APRIL 21, 2015
- At about 1:08pm, Fresno Police were dispatched to the corner of Clinton and Weber for a report of a male who climbed halfway up a traffic signal pole, and is shaking it. Around that same time, there was a call of three males who climbed up a light pole at McKinley and Highway 99 to get to some electrical wires (copper wire theft).
- Sometime this afternoon, Fresno Police responded to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Zoo security had in custody a Merced man named Ramiro Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez apparently decided to enter the Orangutan enclosure to play with the monkeys! Mr. Hernandez is now at the Fresno County Jail on criminal trespass charges.
- Not one of the crazy items...but more of a dire warning. Between 4pm and 7pm, Fresno Police, Fresno Fire, and American Ambulance responded to an address in Northeast Fresno for a report of a male toddler who drank some rubbing alcohol, and would have died if emergency crews did not get there fast. PLEASE...I AM BEGGING YOU!!! Keep ALL chemicals (cleaner sprays, cleansers, scour pads, sponges, etc.) away from children. For cupboards, they make special u-shaped locks (and they're cheap) to put on the handles. The only thing that they should drink is water, juices, and milk. KUDOS to ALL of our first responders!
APRIL 25, 2015
- At about 9:05pm, Fresno Police received a call of a male without a shirt on near Cedar and Belmont\Plaza Drive, running around, hitting cars with his hands, etc. (running amok). The police were unable to locate the man. He was later seen near Cedar and Grant.
This blog is about the various CRAZY and some serious things heard over a police scanner. The channels used are in the Central San Joaquin Valley of Central California (mainly the Fresno area).

Dealing With The Homeless: Cast Of Characters
I have made up nicknames for some of the homeless, since for the most part I do not know their real names. (I apologize in advance, since a couple of the nicknames ARE offensive, but they do not have my respect):
"Bike-Shop Guy"
A homeless man that fixes bicycles and helps hand-build trailers for other homeless individuals.
"Bearded Guy and He-She"
Two individuals, a male Hispanic with salt & pepper hair and a full beard, and his partner, a Caucasian individual that I am unsure of the gender (may be a female). They are known for frequenting the area pushing shopping carts. He forces "her" to go out to beg for money, and holding "hungry for food" signs while he lounges. Lately, they were seen on bicycles with trailers. When last seen with carts, they had a couple dogs, frequently unleashed.
"Casanova"
A Caucasian male, named as such, because when I initially saw him, he was with a different female individual everyday. Has not been seen since October 2014.
"C.B.G." (Leonard Allen "King")
C.B.G. stands for "Crazy Black Guy." African-American male who has mental issues that makes him act weird. According to Police, his real name is Leonard Allen, but goes by the street name "King," and is\was on parole as a AB109. He has not been seen in the area since Fall 2014.
"Crazy Hairy"
A Hispanic female with a lot of hair. She acts like she has mental issues.
"Dark-Haired Mexican Lady"
A Hispanic female that has been in the area since March 2015. She frequently wears a San Francisco 49ers jacket, and has a medium-sized brown dog that she calls "Beautiful," that is frequently unleashed.
"Druggie"
An Asian male, who walks aimlessly around the neighborhood with a very large backpack on his back. One late afternoon, he was caught shooting up drugs in my bushes, and promptly chased out. He is known for looking into cars parked on the street, and carries on conversations with imaginary people.
"Ho #1"
A blonde-haired Caucasian female who frequents the area.
"Ho #2"
A white-haired Caucasian female who frequents the area. During a passing conversation one time, she claimed that she used to live in my house, and wishes to live in it again.
"Karate Kid...He Ain't"
A Hispanic male who frequently likes to twirl a rope like a gymnastic rhythmic ribbon, and also puts the rope into a tree to kick at it like a kickboxer.
"Pitchman"
A Caucasian male who looks like the 'well-dressed guy begging for you to send money to a child in a third-world country in the "Child First" commercials.' He owns a small brown dog, but mostly keeps it on a leash.
"Potty Loudmouth"
A tall Caucasian woman who dresses "slutty." The first time I "met" her is after a homeless male and I finished cleaning up after another homeless couple. I told him that I would come out the next day, and rake up any leftover litter...which I kept my word. The only problem is that I was accosted by her and her African-American friend, and promptly told me that I couldn't rake up my own strip of lawn. She has stayed in the vicinity of the park. Her friend is okay in my book. He relented that day, and had moved their stuff down the street away from my place, but she likes to have it her way or the highway, and has the mouth of a sailor. She owns a medium-sized white and brown dog, and another smaller dog has been seen in her possession lately. Both dogs are frequently unleashed.
"Preacher"
A Caucasian male with short brown hair going gray with a goatee and mustache) who is always running his mouth to someone, there or not, and always says "And I know..." or "And I am certain..." in his rambling conversations. I have not seen him since the end of 2014. He was staying at the Parkside Inn nearby, but frequented my area.
"Skinhead Trucker"
A slender Caucasian male who drives a white and yellow 70's\80's style Ford pickup (that has an alien head sticker as a hood ornament) with a young Caucasian male (his son?). I have seen him a few times "fly off the handle," and have seen his entire head go from the usual "peach" color to almost bright red. His partner looks to be a teenager, and seems to not go to school. One of the "Skinhead's" tantrums that I heard even focused on him questioning the boy's sexual orientation (LGBT). The man and boy own a medium-to-large sized dog, white\black\gray in color, and frequently keeps it unleashed. He even claimed that he was a lawyer to a Taco Bell employee.
"Stroller-Psycho" (Bonnie)
A Schizophrenic\Bi-Polar female who can be nice to you one minute, but not the next, and her tongue sounds like the devil. She is known for pushing around a baby stroller of her belongings. She is also known for setting up somewhere, and leaves a ton of garbage when she leaves. She is also known for carrying on conversations with imaginary people.
"The Fighting Couple"
An African-American couple that frequents the area. The couple argues frequently, and the smaller female is actually the aggressor, and the taller male tries to back off, but the couple stays together.
"Wheelchair Idiot"
An older male who is one-legged, and is in a wheelchair (but can stand and "hobble" around). He also owns a small brown Chihuahua-like dog (and once owned a bigger black dog...that has not been seen in a while). He also pulls a cart of his belongings, and tends to "drive" his chair backwards, even in the street in traffic. At the end of last year, he had access to a van (that pulled a partial van as a trailer), and thought he could just park it anywhere...including on private property. As of late-February 2015, the van has not been seen...but he is still in the area. His dogs are frequently unleashed.
"Zig-Zag"
A Hispanic female with short black hair, and mental issues. When she walks around, it is in a zig-zag pattern.
"Bike-Shop Guy"
A homeless man that fixes bicycles and helps hand-build trailers for other homeless individuals.

Dealing With The Homeless #1
Today is the start of a new feature on the blog: "DEALING WITH THE HOMELESS." Let me tell you a bit of a backstory. Last July, my family and I moved into a older house on a street that borders the venerable, Roeding Park. Since the day we moved in, we have had to deal with various homeless individuals. We have also had homeless individuals start fights, start fires, etc. Now...I do feel some sympathy for the homeless, mainly because twice in my lifetime, I could have been living along-side them.
The homeless around here are known for:
- Going through your garbage cans and leaving a huge mess.
- Littering the ground they walk on or sit on.
- Vandalizing personal and public property.
- Letting their dogs run off leash.
- Letting their dogs intimidate people and other pets in the area.
- Letting their dogs defecate on others' properties.
- Yelling and\or whistling at all times of the day and night.
- Going on your property to defecate or to open water faucets.
- Setting up camp on private property.
- Total disregard for municipal laws and park rules.
Since they do not have any respect for the land and property around them (including those that rightfully live in the homes near them), I do not respect them. Near my place is what I call a "no stay zone." I put up a sign that basically tells the homeless that they cannot set up camp in a certain area near my place. I even water (on the city's watering days) for both my commercial neighbors and make it less appeasing for the homeless to set up camp, unless they like sleeping in wetness. If they are set up in the watering zone at the time I water, they will get wet...and the police even like my plan.
The "Dealing With The Homeless" blog will chronicle the stuff I have to deal with, or that I see. Let's go back a bit.
JULY-NOVEMBER 2014
After we moved in, there were a few times that the police had to come out. One afternoon, a man was trying to "egg" on another to fight. The aggressor even had a chain wrapped around his fist, and a city employee even tried to put his vehicle between the two parties, and called in the police. Later that Fall\Winter, emergency crews were called out a few more times for fight calls at the end of the street. The final time, someone got bashed upside the head with a bat\tree branch, and had to go to the hospital.
DECEMBER 2014
A homeless woman that I call "Stroller Psycho" (found out that her name is Bonnie) sets fire to a cement pipe planter near the Roeding Park Tennis Courts. Police and fire were called. After being let go by police, she spews foul language and throws some belongings while leaving the park.
JANUARY 2015
Around 11:30pm, a homeless individual decides to set a fire at the Roeding Park Tennis Courts. A plastic back drop (placed in-between a chain-link fence) and two wooden benches destroyed.
MARCH 15, 2015\APRIL 18, 2015
A group of homeless individuals basically took over the northwest side of Roeding Park (the corner of Olive & West, and down West toward the new Dog Park).
Some of the homeless do have dogs...large breeds, including those that have the reputation to be vicious, such as Pit-Bulls, and frequently let them roam off their leashes. These dogs also intimidate citizens that want to enter the park on foot from the Olive & West gate, and the gate along West Avenue south of Olive Avenue by barking loudly, and snarling.
Some of the homeless individuals have moved a garbage can from the "corral" on the western most access road on the west side of the northern-most tennis courts, and placed it closer to their "area" by a tree. For a bit, they were using a cement pipe (old drinking fountain or planter?) as a trash can.
As of the morning of March 21, it seems that they removed a sign at the northwest (Olive & West) gate that tells the rules of the park, and they have placed a pair of shoes on the pole. {Now, I am not sure how true this is, but I heard from someone, somewhere, a long time ago that shoes on power lines means that "drugs are sold in the area." This has stuck in my head, because I would not want to go into that kind of area, and I do not want it in my neighborhood.} On the afternoon of March 22, it looks like the shoes on the pole are gone. One of the homeless individuals that frequents this area, and does enter the park often on foot, is an Asian male, who has a very large backpack on his back does do drugs. I caught him in our bushes "shooting up," and after I chased him off, I found two drug needles. They were properly disposed of.
The night of March 20, someone left a shopping cart full of women's shoes by the dumpster. The next morning, someone dumped the shoes out onto the ground in front of the dumpster, and took the cart. As of the night of March 22, the shoes are still there.
Those that have taken up residence on the northwest side of the park also have littered the park grounds, and one or more of the individuals seems to have set up a bicycle repair shop inside (and sometimes outside of) the park.
Outside the park fences, along West Avenue at night, the homeless have set up tents and makeshift shanties. Now, I know that they have to take these down in the daytime...but sometimes, the tents are up until early afternoon (sometimes they're up all day). One tent is very large, and can fit a family of 3-5. Since March 25, a lot of the homeless have moved on, but there are a few that have remained.
APRIL 7-8, 2015
On April 7, I caught one removing a 6ft. x 5ft. gate from the northwestern-most tennis court area, and carried it over his head to a tree about 100ft. away (west of the dumpster, close to the West Avenue fence-line) to use as a shelter from the rain. That, is a classic case of vandalism. Police were called when this was happening, and they did drive by the area...but apparently could not find the area in question despite the directions I gave them, and a description of the individual that removed and carried it to the tree. On April 8, I called the city Parks Administration, and told them. A park employee promptly arrived, and took the gate back.
APRIL 19, 2015
On the morning of April 19, 2015, the Homeless Task Force came and cleared out the area. I thanked the H.T.F. Police and the inmate cleaning crew that cleaned up the area. Two city vans with long trailers were loading down with a couple dozen black garbage bags full of junk that the homeless individuals accumulated. After a couple days, the "Bike-Shop Guy" and a couple others came back into the area...but had a lot less stuff with them.
APRIL 26, 2015
On the afternoon April 26, I had to call the police a couple times (for two incidents). I witnessed four homeless individuals sitting on the grass in the park near a garbage corral. When I noticed that three of the four would take turns putting a blanket over their heads, and concealing their arms\hands, I decided to get my pair of binoculars. I then saw one of the four with a small glass item...that I later identified as a crack pipe. It seems that three of the four sitting there were taking turns taking "hits" on the pipe. Police did arrive in the area, and the four scattered after they saw the police. I followed from a distance two of the individuals, and directed the police to the two. One of the two had the crack pipe on him, and the police arrested him. Later that night, another homeless individual was seen carrying something over to the side of the road in the park...and it was putting out smoke. A put in another call to the police, who then transferred me to the fire department. Truck #19 arrived, and identified the smoking item to be a bunch of sage. The firefighter kicked the sage into some water in the gutter, and left...but not before the Captain on the ladder truck gave a lecture to the individual that placed the burning sage. The homeless individual placed the smoking sage on a cement curb...but it was within reach of the dry grass, which could have spread to nearby trees, including a palm tree.
