> "Unusually Warm With The Usual Craziness"
It has been unusually warm lately (above average temperatures)...but the craziness in the Fresno area stays the same!
MARCH 29, 2015
- From KFSN ABC-30: Fresno Police were dispatched to a strange incident at the Wal-Mart at Herndon and Ingram. There was a report of a female attacking people with a taser, including a child. Officers found and took the subject into custody. Injuries were very minor, and no one needed medical assistance.
- At about 10:20pm, Fresno Police were called out to Fresno and Shaw for a report of a woman with a bicycle on the northeast corner, yelling at traffic.
- At about 10:58pm, Fresno Police were dispatched to the area of Kerckhoff and Ninth for a report of a subject "having relations" with himself.
APRIL 3, 2015
- At about 7:55am, Madera County Fire\CalFire responded to the area of Road 28 and Avenue 9 for a report of a large box in the road, on fire.
APRIL 8, 2015
- At about 6:58pm, Fresno Police and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were advised of a traffic accident at Friant and Freeway 41. One of the accident victims was irate, and wearing some sort of body armor.
APRIL 12, 2015
- At about 11:50pm, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatched officers to southbound Highway 99 south of Ashlan Avenue for a report of a male riding a bicycle on the shoulder of the highway.
APRIL 17, 2015
- At about 2:30pm, emergency crews were dispatched to the Peace Officer's Gun Range near Highway 99 and Herndon. There were work crews out there shoring up the dirt berms behind the targets that collect the spent bullets. A county worker on a front-loader tractor was traveling on a dirt road on top of the berm (not digging or disking), when a gas pipeline buried about 40in. (about 3-3.5ft. deep) exploded, severely injuring the tractor driver and some inmate work-crewmen. The driver and one (or two) crewmen have severe burns to a majority of their bodies. The incident sent flames up about 100ft. into the sky (with a smoke "header" that can be seen dozens of miles away), and caused major traffic backups on Highway 99 between Avenue 7 in Madera County all the way to Downtown Fresno, and on surrounding surface streets, including Herndon and Shaw Avenues for several hours, and caused a couple nearby schools to activate their emergency plans. Right now, there are several agencies investigating the incident (CPUC, PG&E, Fresno County, Sheriff's Department, etc.), and there has been blame going around. PG&E says that the pipeline was "visually" inspected earlier in the month, and last month, and passed. IMHO, I think the tractor traveled over the pipe (as Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said in a live press conference Friday evening) on the road, and the weight of the tractor compacted the (hardpan?) ground underneath, and the pipeline gave-way. There may have also been some vibrations from a passing freight train, which was almost caught up in the explosion as well.
APRIL 18, 2015
- At about 5:08pm, Fresno Police were called to an unknown address in the Northeast Section of the city for a "check the welfare" of a male in a red pick-up truck (with the door open), growling at himself.
APRIL 21, 2015
- At about 1:08pm, Fresno Police were dispatched to the corner of Clinton and Weber for a report of a male who climbed halfway up a traffic signal pole, and is shaking it. Around that same time, there was a call of three males who climbed up a light pole at McKinley and Highway 99 to get to some electrical wires (copper wire theft).
- Sometime this afternoon, Fresno Police responded to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Zoo security had in custody a Merced man named Ramiro Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez apparently decided to enter the Orangutan enclosure to play with the monkeys! Mr. Hernandez is now at the Fresno County Jail on criminal trespass charges.
- Not one of the crazy items...but more of a dire warning. Between 4pm and 7pm, Fresno Police, Fresno Fire, and American Ambulance responded to an address in Northeast Fresno for a report of a male toddler who drank some rubbing alcohol, and would have died if emergency crews did not get there fast. PLEASE...I AM BEGGING YOU!!! Keep ALL chemicals (cleaner sprays, cleansers, scour pads, sponges, etc.) away from children. For cupboards, they make special u-shaped locks (and they're cheap) to put on the handles. The only thing that they should drink is water, juices, and milk. KUDOS to ALL of our first responders!
APRIL 25, 2015
- At about 9:05pm, Fresno Police received a call of a male without a shirt on near Cedar and Belmont\Plaza Drive, running around, hitting cars with his hands, etc. (running amok). The police were unable to locate the man. He was later seen near Cedar and Grant.
